At AALO, unfurling the tricolor on the occasion, former political assistant Tapang Taki that though the light of development came late in this part in comparison to other developed states of the country, Arunachal Pradesh has emerged as one of the fastest growing states of the country. The pace of progress has been taken to new heights in all sectors by the successive governments, he said.
Arunachal is a land of multi ethnicity due to its diverse tribes, practices, beliefs and other tribal ways of life but striking feature of this state has been its unity in diversity. This land is known as the island of peace and it is important to maintain this healthy tradition, he said.

The Governor, who has been attending the Conference of Higher and Technical Education six times in a row called upon heads of institutes to provide the much needed leadership to help those who are doing poorly to do well and to help those who are doing well to do even better. “A team spirit is required to direct individual accomplishments towards organizational objectives,” he said and advised them to inculcate the spirit of working together toward a common vision.
The Governor emphasized on proper academic environment for students to excel and at the same time basic facilities for the teaching faculty. Stressing on use of information technology which can help in improving the performance of the students and teachers, he said use of Edusat needs to be encouraged.
The Governor further informed that he has approached some Chief Ministers and his Governor colleagues in various states such as Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab for reservation of seats for students of Arunachal Pradesh. He also volunteered to take up the matter regarding requirement in having better infrastructure in the colleges and University in the State with Ministry of Human Resources. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki said that State government is keen to expand the scope and provide access to a greater number of aspirants among the youths.
“Many of our families in the rural areas are not financially well off to send their children for general or technical education. Consequently, a big segment is deprived of the opportunity. Their potentials remain untapped. Hence, the State Government has decided to take higher education almost to the doorstep of the aspirants, the Chief Minister said.

The chief minister emphatically said that various programmes have been launched to streamline the primary and secondary education and the higher education sector too has received priority of the Govt during the last 3 years.
Stressing on the vocational and technical education, the chief minister further disclosed that the Government is planning to set up 10 new Polytechnics, five of which are to start functioning from the next academic session at Namsai, Pasighat Roing, Dirang and Laying.
He further informed that the State Government has launched an ambitious scheme of providing one lakh employment within next 5 years; and the pass out students of Polytechnics can be the proud contenders of such posts with their technical expertise. Thus the educational profile of the state has witnessed a steady rise in the last 3 years.

While proposing vote of thanks, Commissioner Education Ganesh Koyu said that the State is lacking in quality education due to inadequate number of teaching faculty. He pointed that many educational institutes have been upgraded but matching numbers of teachers are not appointed.
In his welcome address the Higher & Technical Education Director Dr. Joram Begi gave an overview of higher education scenario of the State. He informed that gross enrollment ratio of the State stands at 15% against 18.8% of the national ratio.
Stating the expansion of Higher Education in the State is required, Dr. Begi informed the density of higher education institutions of the State stands at 0.2%, against 10.2% of the national average. He added that the density of higher education institutions of neighbouring State of Assam stands at 6.6%.

The training programme sponsored by State Agricultural Management & Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) and funded by Union Ministry of Agriculture was attended by 50 officials, including Agriculture Development Officer (ADO), Agriculture Field Assistants from East Siang, West Siang, Upper Siang, Longding and other east Arunachal districts.
The first day of the training was on prospect of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) of vegetable crops and Role of bio pesticides in Integrated Pest management.
Imparting training on various pest control measures, Dr KM Singh, Professor (entomologists) from Pasighat College of Horticulture and Forestry under Central Agriculture University elaborated the prospects of pest control measures. Discussing on impacts and potentials of IPM with reference to “Biological control” of pest in management of diseases of vegetable crops, he laid stress on maintenance of Economic Injury Level (EIL) and Economic Threshold Level (ETL).

Tourist guide training prog ends successfully
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: The state tourism department has successfully organized a State Level Guide Training Programme from February 11 to 20. The programme was conducted by Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management under the union Ministry of Tourism.
Prof. Nimit Chowdhary and Ramesh C. Devbrath were the lead trainers while Bengia Manna Sonam Assistant Director of Tourism was the coordinator.
The course content was designed by IITTM, Gwalior. The trainees were given first hand experience on practical guiding in a professional manner. Besides classroom interaction, trainees were exposed to real time guiding at places of tourist interests. They were also taken to State Museum and Gompa for 3 days to practice tour guiding.
The main objective of the training is to enhance capacity building so as to meet expectation of growing number of tourists visiting the state. It is expected that these professionally trained tourists guide will present a professional face of Arunachal tourism and show the state in good light. Next batch of training will start from 4th March, 2013 and those unemployed youth’s candidates who are serious about tour guiding with minimum qualification of class XII pass can submit their bio data latest by 28th Feb 2013 at Directorate of Tourism, Itanagar.

PPWC opposes shifting of EM division
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Pasighat Peoples’ Welfare Committee (PPWC) has conducted an emergency meeting at Pasighat yesterday and discussed various issues.
The members unanimously opposed the shifting of Pasighat’s EM Division to Pangin circle as per the recent Government order without the knowledge and consultation with the people of Pasighat. The people will not welcome such decision which may lead to some uncomfortable and uncalled for situation, it said.
The PPWC failed to understand the motive of the Government as well as persons behind the pursing the shifting of EM division, the committee said. It claimed that it was the demand of the PPWC for establishment of EM division at Pasighat which was tabled during the high level meeting at East Siang DC’s Conference Hall on June 21 last.
It demanded the authority for revocation of the shifting order of EM Division from Pasighat to Pangin circle within a period of 15 from today or else the PPWC will be forced to hit the road by announcing series of democratic movements.
The PPWC also served a 15 days ultimatum to the concerned authorities of BSNL and SBI ATM Pasighat including General Hospital Pasighat to provide better services.

AGSU seeks CM’s intervention
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: All Galo Students Union (AGSU) has appealed to the Chief Minister to intervene in the reported termination of three Arunachalee FTC judges by the high court registry.
In a representation to Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, the union said “sudden termination of three FTC judges by court administration without any consultation with the Govt and thereby getting defunct all the courts of the state” is itself a contrary to the directive of the Supreme Court of India.
It appealed the Chief Minister to take up the matter seriously with the High Court for reinstatement of their services and for their absorption under relevant rule of the Arunachal Pradesh Judicial Service.

officer on production management and post harvest technology of major crops in Arunachal
Pradesh was jointly organized by Indian Institute of Spice Research (IISR) Kozhikode
Kerala and Spices Board, Itanagar here from February 18-
Inaugurating the programme Horticulture Director Zambo Ratan highlighted the role of spices and importance of scientific production technologies for augmenting the yield.
Horticulture Department Deputy Director Narang Tari also advised the farmers and the officers of Horticulture department to learn scientific knowhow and emphasized for cooperative movement for successful spices farming in the state.
Both Ratan and Tari also briefed about importance of Ginger and Cardamom. Appreciates for saving life
Dear Editor,
Through your esteem daily, it is to inform to general public that on the night of 16th February at around 11 PM one speeding vehicle knock down Kenge Ado, an Assistant Sub Inspector (APP) who was coming back to his residence after curtsy visit to a friend who got operated recently. The incident happened near Old Deputy Commissioner Office, Naharlagun and the driver sped away without caring about the ailing person. Not even that, the person who was following the vehicle which intentionally hit the police officer also did not try to help him to get medical treatment. ASI Ado somehow managed to raise his hand hoping to get help from the passing vehicle but in vain. After a while Yukar Taw, a true dedicated social worker who was passing through same road found Ado in pool of blood and immediately rushed him to General Hospital, Naharlagun without a second thought. This act of Yukar Taw is really a commendable and praiseworthy act and we don’t have any appropriate word to convey our gratitude to him.
I on behalf of Aado Welfare Society Itanagar, convey our heartfelt thanks from the bottom our heart to Yukar Taw, for his yeomen service being rendered and saving a precious life of a Police Officer in general and Ado family in particular. May God help Yukar Taw and his family in every sphere of life.

Before our memory fades lets us recollect the news item that appeared in this esteemed daily on 25.12.2012, which reported “Major Issue faced by the Gurkha and Yobins of Vijaynagar was solved on spot, by Nabam Tuki, the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh by distributing PRC certificates to few senior citizens and has directed all others to apply for the same and collect from the office of the circle officer.

We the Yobin people have faced betrayal and nothing else from the Government of Arunachal, and every time a new government is formed we looked forward that our grievances will be addressed but nothing happens apart from empty promises, and we are back to square one with deprivation and discrimination.

We demand our Schedule Tribe status, if the government feels Gurkhas should be given PRC is upto them without floating the laws and rules mend for the protection of the tribal people. Let every right thinking citizen of Arunachal spare a few minutes of their valuable time and ponder upon this issue, lest 10 years from now we may wonder, What have we done?.
